This substance, hazardous at the moment of evaporation, but luminous and tender when cooled down, is used by Dmitry Buldygin to reproduce pieces of post-Soviet architecture in scale. The artist forces this architecture to deform by partially melting it. The resulting misshapen constructions reflect the gradual extinction of the symbols of a society that used to exist. Among them, we find a church, the place of transition from life to death, residential buildings, which sets the back-and-forth rhythm of displacements between the city and the countryside and which makes part of the everyday economy; the plants – a place for work but also a place for wearing oneself out for the benefit of production.
